Good for crutching up to 12 sheep at a time. Wouldn't want to shear more than three with it. I bought it to crutch sheep onto a trailer for market and it is fine for that. The good points: Can use any common brand of gear, can use anywhere there is power, doesn't tend to nick the skin. The bad points: Bulkier, heavier and noisier than expected. Gets hot on a 35 degree day with continuous use. Balance point is a long way back, therefore cutting points are too far from hand. Hard to push, as crows foot is quite bully - making crutching greasy sheep difficult. Motor slows down considerably during a heavy cut, making it much slower than mechanical shearing. Would be concerned about its lifespan in dusty wool. If you are used to a mechanical handpiece, don't expect this one to keep up with that performance. I have not used any other type of electric handpiece, so for all I know this one may be the best there is. In my opinion, any more than 3 to shear or 10 to crutch I'd run them through the shed.Read full review

Bad start but a good finish. It seems that when the shears arrived, the cutter was not set up properly, and was not cutting. After I set up the cutter correctly, it was very good. I am not a shearer but managed to shear one of our 'lawn-mowers' quite quickly without any cuts. I never had the motor speed any higher than 3 to 4. At my learner speed, there was no point in running the motor at a faster speed, and when doing some trimming around the neck I turned it down to 2. A hint for anyone who has never worked in a shearing shed - keep the shears in the wool as much as possible - the lanoline in the wool (with sheep) lubricates the shears and keep them cool.

Works well and a pretty good price. Its not quite industrial but its not far behind. Excellent for paddock shearing.

We tried other cheaper ones, but this has the best quality. Its not for shearing all day but it is good for crutching and alpacas.
