Anyone who is a fan of afternoon tea can almost recite the lists of classic recipes by heart: scones, cucumber sandwiches, jam-filled sponge cakes and on and on. This book will change all that! Eric Lanlard has come up with a collection of delightful teatime recipes that are sure to become classics in their own right. Consider "Lemon and Pepper Macarons with Smoked Salmon", "Roast Beef, Watercress and Horseradish Brioche Buns" or "Herbed Lobster Rolls". Fancy something sweet? Try "Pistachio and Rose Financiers", "Candied Apricot Cake" or "White Chocolate and Raspberry Domes". I must admit that much of the appeal of any cookbook comes from the photography and this book does not disappoint! Try looking at the photos of the "French Blueberry Tart" or the spectacular "Strawberry Ombre Cake" and not feel hungry afterwards! (And don't wonder if you are compelled to search eBay for some of the lovely vintage teapots and serving pieces shown in these pages!) Some good news for those tea fanciers who fear they might not be up to the culinary delights offered in this book: these recipes are trendy and creative, but they do not require a trip to the local overpriced gourmet emporium for arcane ingredients that cannot be found anyplace else, and they do not require the skills of Escoffier himself to recreate. That is a great thing! I could go on and on, but I think I need to go and prepare a batch of "Salted Caramel Brownies" and a nice cup of tea. And you should do the same!Read full review
