This book is written with compassion that some others seem to lack. It gives the reader a better understanding of the relationship between Elvis and his doctor, who had Elvis' best interest at heart. As you read you find out that this doctor tried to heal the emotional as well as the physical pain that his patient was in. He recognized that a pill was not always the answer and wanted to heal instead of just provide another prescription. This book will show you that all the prescriptions given were for others in Elvis circle and this may be where the misconception has come into play for so long. It makes the reader think for himself: If Elvis was taking all these medications prescribed how could he perform the many tours, etc. that he did? Elvis was always at his best when performing so why would he risk taking something that would interfere with his precious gift? Have an open mind and read for yourself. Yes there are times when we are not at 100% in our lives due to stress, illness, etc. but Elvis talent, his gift will shine through no matter what. This books shows that this Doctor wanted to heal Elvis with what was needed. Nothing more. He tried to suggest alternative methods that could have helped Elvis in so many ways but unfortunately he was not listened to. Read the book. Determine for yourself. Since this book is not one to sensationalize Elvis in any way you will feel the love and compassion that came from the Doctor for Elvis. he cared not only for him as a patient but as a person who was extraordinarily gifted and shared it with everyone.Read full review
This perspective by Dr Nick could only be told by Dr Nick himself. He tells the story that millions of Elvis Presley fans have waited to hear for years. How they met and how it all ended 10 years later. It's a roller coaster of a story . As a reader , I just wanted to scream at Elvis and get him to stop his dependence on the drugs which ruined him. Dr Nick had an impossible patient to deal with in Elvis. Elvis was addicted to drugs and he was going to get them no matter what. Elvis just had too many other sources and regardless of Dr Nick's best intentions , he was being undermined by his patient. That's the core of this book by Dr Nick. I'm sure there are many other perspectives to this very sad story but I wanted to get Dr Nicks perspective for years. In the end , we lost a gifted entertainer that could have gone on to achieve even greater career & personal triumphs. Strap on your emotional seat belt for this book....Read full review
