Services present a very important component of a national economy. This book discusses services as economic activities, evaluates their impact on competitiveness and shows the areas in which services have a potential to develop and extend the competitiveness of other sectors and the national economy as a whole. A number of the EU member-states were observed for this purpose, among the transition economies of in Central Europe, selecting those with higher growth potential than the potential of the so-called old member-states. In the selected countries the changes proceeded more quickly, although according to the same market mechanisms. We can connect the impact of the business services with the multiplication effect they have in the economy, and not only with the direct output of the sectors, but we must also count the impact on connected sectors. In this consideration the services and the quality of their management have an impact on the competitiveness of the economy. The competitiveness of these economies was modeled using multidimensional scaling of selected indicators in 2003, 2005 and 2008.
