The book highligts the potential role of marine bacteria of two coastal regions of India, namely Andhra pradesh and Tamilnadu in the production of bioactive metabolites such as antibiotics and the need to explore more to meet the industrial need as well as human health. In the present context, two marine bacteria Bacillus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa have been found as efficient antimicrobial agents against gram positive and gram negative microrganisms. A novel antibiotic Bacilysocin, with phospholipid structure has been produced by marine isolate CMB-3 under the optimised conditions. Similarly, KMB-1 produced pyridinum based antibiotic. This is a new addition to the family of Pyridinium compounds and first report of it from a marine bacteria.
