English summary: As the geographic center, Germany has always played a special role in Europe. Even the St. Paul's Church had good reasons for Germany's claim to a leadership role and stressed its bridging function. Both Bismarck's policies and German-Poland relations during the 19th Century showed this goal as an opportunity to the other powers rather than a threat. Only during the era of high imperialism did Germany's ambition for power overshadow its connecting role and focused attention on the ruius milestones of 1914 and 1933. Yet hubris did t form the sole feature of German policy. Largely forgotten outsiders bear witness to this history; In this volume, Guenter Wollstein recalls carriers of hope such as the tragic figure of Chancellor Bethmann Hollweg, Nadolny, the top diplomat whose breakthrough was hindered, and Olbricht, the executed hero of the resistance. German text.
