The Nikon D40 is a wonderful camera and a great value these days. If you can find one with low shutter count, then you have yourself a bargain. 6MP is more than most people need. How many people actually blow up their family and vacation photos past 8x10 anyways. Buy this camera and stop wasting your money on mega pixels and features you will never use. It does not take videos. But cameras are for taking photos. If you want videos, go buy a camcorder.

This is a great entry camera. I made somewhat of a switch from using cannons to buying this Nikon d40. I liked the price first. But the camera has very clear pictures, intuitive controls (if you have a Canon now the controls are just flipped) . The camera communicates well with my Mac and PCs. The menus and feed back is clear and my lenses have worked great. The only issues I have with it is that (1) the display doesn't turn off when you put the camara to your face like a rebel it waits for you to press the shudder release 1/2 way. So you have some light in your face for a moment. There isn't as far as I have seen an option to put the focus on a separate button than the shudder release like the canons.
Excellent value. My first automatic watch, I have enjoyed every second with it on. Highly recommend! I love the 37mm size, I’m 6’3” with 7.5inch wrists and this looks a great. Can’t wait to try it on some different straps!

i had been using this camera for about a week now. its been a great camera as a starter for photography. the only thing which i found is that when you are taking a picture its more handy if they have the ability for the user to select if he/she want to use the viewfinder or the LCD screen for the display. The D40 doesnt support the lcd screen when taking a picture. other than that everything else seems really nice. flash seems to be good. macro is good (objects can be closen up upto about 8-10") im happy for my buy. cheers sid
I was angling for a D90, but my wife had a D80 and really, we didn't need two of the same camera. Opted for the cheaper d40 and I am very happy with the decision. It's lighter, more compact and very easy to use. Has great features and works with the lenses we already had. If you aren't a pro, or are a pro and want a lighter camera for travel, this is the one.
