Catalogue of the Lepidoptera the in the British Museum Collection of the British Museum (Classic Reprint) by George F Hampson (Paperback / softback, 2015)
Excerpt from Catalogue of the Lepidoptera the in the British Museum Collection of the British Museum The present volume, which is supplementary to Vol. III. of Lepidoptera Phalaenae, was in manuscript at the beginning of 1915, and the text-figures and most of the Plates had been prepared; but, owing to the European War, it was decided to postpone its publication. It has w been completed and brought up to date as far a 3 possible. For the reason just mentioned, however, references will be found in it to German publications which have appeared since August 1914. The Arctiidae in Vol. III. included 147 genera and 845 species, and to these are added in the present volume 25 genera and 1215 species. The Agaristidae, for which the name Phalaeididae is substituted, included 53 genera and 225 species, and these numbers are w increased by 7 genera and 80 species. The term subspecies is occasionally made use of in this volume simply to dete that our present kwledge of the form referred to is insufficient to determine whether it is a species or an aberrational variety.
