I was surprised to discover how much I liked Cinderella Man, a book I picked up because I'm writing a book that involves some of the fascinating characters Delisa writes about. At first I thought that the author spent too much detail on boxers and boxing, which largely revolts me. I did find myself needing to skim some pages. But the Delisa's excellent writing and good selection of details worked to bring memorable color and interest to a sport that I'm surprised to say deserves attention, if only because of the passion it stirs in so many Americans. At the very least, the book is a look at a fascinating era of American history and how boxing emerged from its brutal dark ages. I'll never look at the sport the same.
