Christmas on Neptune: As If I Was in a Dream Looking Through a Blurred Window at Things That Were Not Real. by Bryan McCammant (Paperback / softback, 2012)
Is reality a dream? Or are dreams a reality? Kieth Haynes was a curious twelve year old boy living on a farm in Montana with his mom and four brothers, the year was 1969. Kieth and two of his brothers think they are scientists among other things. For christmas they dream of getting a 100 power telescope to put in the observatory in their bedroom closet. Their family is way too poor to afford a gift like that or any others, they are barely getting by. Christmas Eve he encounters something very strange out of the closet window. He embarks on an adventure that takes him far from home. Flying through outer space on the Christmas ship Opportunity, he sees many strange and wonderful things as he visits Mercury, Europa, Titan and Neptune. Along the way he discovers an unexplainable connection to many of the things in his life back home. Does he go into the future? Is he in the present? Is it just a dream? Or is it reality?
My name is Bryan McCammant, I am in my mid 50's. I thought of this story as a kid in the 7th grade. I got an A on it one of the very few A's I ever got. This story and others I wrote sat around for years while I worked in construction and raised my two sons. Upon having more free time I decided to start writing again. The story is a lot different than the original one, which by the way I still have, but there are a few of the same elements in it. There are a lot of my life experiences in the story. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did writing it. I look forward to writing the sequeals.
