Very compact unit, fits easily in any vehicle or bike. Addition of fan solved heating problems. Power output is consistent across the bands and very little inter modulation. A clean, quiet medium powered VHF/UHF Transceiver. Easy to program manually using the Menu Guide

A more concise manual would be a plus. The one supplied is very vague and abbreviation are not qualified. More information about Personal Computer programming would be desirable. The lack of a Squelch adjustment makes the unit average for mobile use. Basically a work in progress.

Its a pretty big technology leap from my first Yaesu FT200. I am working through the mysteries of CHIRP and programming, but the 8900D seems to do what it is supposed to do so far. It will probably take some assistance to get it sorted with Australian repeater channels. If you are familiar with CHIRP it would be no issue. The rig itself is tiny and looks like very good quality.

Very small. I made a bracket so I could fit in my car without making any holes in the plastic interior, works very well. Excellent audio in both Tx & Rx. Tx output is just about spot on as manufacturer stated. At 13.8 Volts.

Works well, using as base radio. Be sure to set menu items correctly, aka tx time out timer, ctcss.
