One word to describe this book . . . BRILLIANT! Thoroughly researched, detailed descriptions and written in a style that is not only easy to read but has a lot of FitzSimons' own opinions/interpretations that add a quirky humour to what is, essentially, a real life horror story. This story is something I'd expect from the pen of Stephen King . . but to know it is a TRUE story makes the barbarity even more incomprehensible. What makes people turn so evil? The thickness of the volume was a bit daunting to start with but was easy to read. An enjoyable, educational and disturbing read . . . I'm inspired to read other of FitzSimons' books. Suitable for ages from late secondary school (maybe it should be prescribed reading for secondary school English/Australian History classes) up. Definitely not a children's bed-time story.Read full review
I bought this book because I wanted to read a Peter Fitzsimons book. Would normally not read this sort of book, but I must say once I started it I could not put it down. If history books were like this when I was at school I would have paid more attention. Loved it. Will definitely read more from this author.
