It was well known at the time that Creedence were great admirers of 'Booker t and the mg's' and Otis Redding, So when Booker t and the mg's supported them on tour, the influence grew even stronger, as is evidenced on this underrated album. Three tracks (Hideaway,Born to move, and It's just a thought) show this to great effect. Track two (sailers lament) has a calypso feel to it, and track three (chameleon) is sort-of jazz rock. Four of the remaining five tracks (Pagan Baby, Hey tonight,Have you ever seen the rain, and Molina - which should have been a single ! ) are typical Creedence rockers. The final track (Rude awakening number two) is an instrumental which starts off very sweetly and gradually builds into a cataclysmic maelstrom of noise which I take to be symbolising the end of the band as they were at the time, as Tom Fogerty left the band after this album. CCR went on as a three-piece to record one more album (Mardi Gras) on which John Fogerty only sang on four songs, while Stu Cook and Doug Clifford wrote and sang the rest.Read full review
